The researcher acknowledgement, explained.

Creator pages on Peps keep research catalogs hidden until a visitor taps I Agree. Here is exactly what that means, what we store, and what we don't.

What you agree to

The short version shown on every page

“I certify I'm at least 21 and a qualified researcher purchasing for in vitro / laboratory research only, not for human or veterinary use.”

The full terms (default)

These products are supplied as laboratory research materials to qualified researchers only. By selecting I Agree you certify that you are at least 21 years of age, and confirm you are a qualified researcher purchasing for in vitro / laboratory research only, not for human or veterinary use.

Some creators customize this wording. Their version is shown under “Full terms” on their page.

The acknowledgement exists so research-use-only products are only shown to people who certify they are at least 21 and confirm they are qualified researchers purchasing for in vitro / laboratory research only, not for human or veterinary use. Until you agree, product names, prices, images and links are not sent to your browser at all.

The acknowledgement cookie

Scope
Only that creator's page. Agreeing on one creator's page doesn't unlock another's.
Contents
A random acknowledgement id plus a signature that proves we issued it. It contains no name, email, or other personal details.
Security
HttpOnly (page scripts can't read it), Secure (HTTPS only), SameSite=Lax (not sent by other sites' requests).
Purpose
Remembering that you acknowledged, so you aren't asked again on every visit that day.

Purpose
First-party analytics for creators: counting page views and unique visitors, and which links get clicked.

Peps doesn't use advertising cookies, cross-site trackers or third-party analytics on creator pages.

What we record when you agree

To keep a record that the acknowledgement was given, we store:

  • Which creator's page it was on
  • The anonymous visitor id and the time you agreed
  • When it expires
  • A one-way salted hash of your IP address (the address itself isn't stored)
  • Your browser's user-agent string

Creators see totals (for example “120 researcher unlocks this week”), not individual visitors.

When you click through to a store

If you've agreed and then click a product, the link to the store carries a short-lived signed token (gp_ack) so the store can skip asking you again. The token contains only:

Acknowledgement id
The same random id as the cookie.
Creator
The handle of the page you agreed on.
Organization
The company, if the product came from a company catalog.
Expiry
The same expiry as your acknowledgement.

It never includes your IP address, visitor id or any personal information. Stores that use it may set their own cookie on their site. Their handling is covered by their own policies. Technical details for stores.

Withdrawing or resetting

Your acknowledgement expires on its own after 24 hours. To end it sooner, clear cookies for getpeps.us in your browser settings. The catalog will be hidden again and you'll be asked the next time you visit.
